Why do my eyes water?

There are several reasons why your eyes may be watering. Here are a few possible causes:

Red watery eyes
  1. Allergies: If you are experiencing itchy, watery eyes along with other allergy symptoms such as sneezing, a runny nose, and congestion, you may be experiencing allergies.
  2. Dry eye: If your eyes are not producing enough stabilising tears or the quality of your tears is poor, you may experience dryness and discomfort, which can trigger an overproduction of the watery tears in the eye.
  3. Eye infections: Infections like conjunctivitis or styes can cause your eyes to water along with other symptoms like redness, swelling, and discharge.
  4. Irritants: If your eyes are exposed to irritants like smoke, fumes, or dust, they may produce an excessive amount of tears as a natural defence mechanism to flush out the irritants.
  5. Blocked tear ducts: If your tear ducts become blocked, it can cause an overflow of tears, leading to watery eyes.

If your symptoms persist or are accompanied by pain or vision changes, it’s best to see an eye doctor for an evaluation.
